Ingredients

  • 2 cups Hungry Jack® Complete Buttermilk Pancake & Waffle Mix
  • 1 1/4 cups cold water or milk for richer flavor
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter or oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract optional, for aroma and depth
  • Nonstick spray or butter for greasing the waffle iron

Instructions

  • Prepare the batter: In a large mixing bowl, combine the Hungry Jack® waffle mix, water (or milk), melted butter, and vanilla extract. Whisk slowly at first to prevent lumps, then mix until the batter becomes smooth and slightly thick. Let it rest for about 2–3 minutes — this helps the mix hydrate and makes your waffles crisp on the outside yet tender inside.
  • Preheat the waffle iron: Turn on your waffle maker and let it preheat until it’s hot and ready. Lightly spray with nonstick cooking spray or brush with a thin layer of butter. You’ll know it’s ready when a drop of batter sizzles on contact.
  • Cook the waffles: Pour about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of batter onto the center of the waffle iron (depending on size). Close the lid gently and cook for about 4–5 minutes or until golden brown. Don’t lift the lid too soon — wait until steam stops escaping, which means the waffle is nearly done and crisp.
  • Serve warm: Carefully remove the waffle and place it on a plate. Repeat with the remaining batter, greasing the iron between batches if needed. Stack them high and keep them warm under a clean kitchen towel until ready to serve.
  • Optional step: For extra-crispy edges, you can pop cooked waffles into a preheated 200°F (93°C) oven for 5 minutes before serving.
